Underground Blossom

Underground Blossom is an indie point & click adventure game developed by Rusty Lake, a Dutch studio known for surreal puzzle games with minimalistic stories. Their previous games, The Past Within and Rusty Lake Hotel are set in the same world. Underground Blossom is a short game, clocking in at about two hours.

Plot

The game is set in the titular underground subway, telling the memories and potential future of Laura Vanderboom, a character met at each of seven available stations. By uncovering her secrets we can help her find the meaning of life and escape the corruption consuming her mind.

Mechanics

Underground Blossom focuses on exploration, item collecting and puzzle solving. Each station is home to various challenges we must overcome to progress further.

We must listen to the statements of encountered NPCs, manipulate and combine objects by setting clocks, guessing lock combinations or dialing numbers in a pay phone. Each solved puzzle brings us closer to solving the next one and moving on to the next station.

Game modes

Underground Blossom features slightly disturbing, hand-drawn 2D visuals. The game's atmospheric soundtrack was composed by musician Victor Butzelaar, accompanied by cellist Sebastiaan van Halsema.
