Valheim is a survival action game with an open world that takes us to a fantastic universe inspired by Nordic mythology. The game was developed by the independent team of Iron Gate Studio and published by Coffee Stain Publishing.
In Valheim we see the action from the third person perspective (TPP). The game starts in the relatively quiet centre of the procedurally generated land. Although we may feel moderately safe there, the area is not very rich in natural resources. We need resources to produce an ever better arsenal and stronger armour, to build various structures like fortresses or posts, and to produce food for our character.
Therefore, over time, we start to move farther and farther from the center; while dense forests, gloomy marshes or even snowy mountain peaks we walk on foot, once we reach the seashore, we have no choice but to build ourselves a boat and go in search of unknown lands. The increasingly courageous exploration involves the need to face increasing threats. Fights with aggressive animals and mythical beasts are dynamic, and during these battles we have to show dexterity and reflexes in order to block enemy blows in time or perform evasions and to launch counterattacks in a flash. We eliminate enemies by making use of cold weapons (such as swords and axes) and ranged weapons (like various bows).
Valheim: Hearth and Home
Hearth and Home is the first major update for Valheim. It introduces many changes related to food mechanics. The correlation between stamina and life points has been removed. Three categories of food have been added, giving different bonuses to the above mentioned indicators. Plants have also been added, which allow you to provoke vomiting and thus empty your stomach. There were also recipes for new dishes.
After the update there is also the possibility to own a mount - you can put saddles on tame Loxes, thanks to which you can ride them.
Hearth and Home adds new furniture, resources and weapons to the game. The patch also changes the balance of weapons in the game.
The action of Valheim takes place in the tenth world, invented from scratch for this game (it was not present in the Scandinavian cosmogony). Warriors who want to deserve eternal glory and a place in Valheim have to cross this land and face the beasts that inhabit it. Those who manage to survive will eventually be tamed by the gods.
In Valheim you can play alone or in online co-op mode.
