A TPP action game set in a world inspired by Norse mythology. It was developed by Creative Assembly, the creators of the bestselling strategy game series, Total War. The player assumes the role of Skarin, a young warrior chosen by the gods of Asgard to protect the human realm, Midgard, against the undead, who were brought back to life by the goddess Hel, mistress of the underworld.
Viking: Battle for Asgard for PC, X360 and PS3 is a fast-paced third person action game. Apart from that, a large emphasis was put on the character development. The player faces hundreds of hostile creatures in spectacular battles.
The game was developed by Creative Assembly, popular mainly for the series of complex strategy games - Total War. The PC version features improved visuals.
Both the game world and the story itself were inspired by Norse mythology. The player assumes the role of Skarin, a young viking warrior who was given a very important mission by the gods of Asgard. The protagonist has to protect the earthly Midgard against the undead armies summoned by Hel - a hostile goddess. The player has to stop the goddess as well, for she aims to destroy the other gods by bringing the world to its end – the so-called Ragnarok.
Viking: Battle for Asgard for PC, X360 and PS3 stands out mainly with the exceptionally large game world the player can freely explore. As the story progresses, the player visits both small villages and huge cities. The protagonist participates in great battles, but he can also complete simple quests given by NPCs. Further progress of the story is player-dependant. The protagonist can increase his reputation among the peoples inhabiting the in-game environments. NPCs encountered can join the protagonist, and the player can give them adequate orders.
Viking: Battle for Asgard for PC, X360 and PS3 emphasizes spectacular battles. The player fights in close combat using a wide set of melee weapons. The player can perform powerful combos or finish the beaten enemies. Thus the battles are very brutal. Interestingly, attacking by surprise is also an option - it is especially useful when the protagonist is greatly outnumbered. Apart from the power his sword has, Skarin can also use his mystical forces.
The game offers high quality visuals, especially in terms of how many characters can be displayed on the screen. The environments such as forests, extensive caverns or coastal areas are also well made.
