An action adventure game in which we play the role of a hero in a coma. During the game, we answer questions that determine the means at our disposal during the journey through the nightmarish reality. The main source of inspiration for Waking was the Souls series, which manifests itself primarily in the combat system.
Waking is an action-adventure game, whose main source of inspiration was the Souls series. The dev of the title is the independent developer, Jason Oda, and the game was published by tinyBuild Games.
In Waking we play as a hero kept in a coma by dark forces. The task of the protagonist is to defeat the latter and to discover the reasons that led him to this state. Only in this way will he be able to return to the world of living.
Action in Waking was shown from third-person perspective. At first glance, the game does not differ too much from the standard formula of the genre. In the course of the game we traverse vast, oneiric locations, solve environmental puzzles and fight enemies, using various telekinetic attacks that inflict damage at a distance. When clashing with adversaries, watch their movements carefully to find potential gaps in the defense, parry their blows, and execute quick counters.
However, what distinguishes the title from other similar games is the fact that from time to time the game encourages us to meditate, at the same time asking us to consider a specific aspect of our lives (like the color of the eyes of the first person who broke our hearts or the role played by our parents in our lives). The answers we have given have an impact on the means to break out of the nightmare in which the protagonist is plunged, such as the available weapon or even who will lead us through the dreamy reality. The fact that the different levels are generated procedurally is also not insignificant.
Three-dimensional visuals of Waking do not look particularly impressive. However, they have been kept in an original style that may appeal to users.

Game Ratings for Waking Video Game.
TechRaptor: 4.5 / 10 by Samuel Guglielmo
Waking tries to be a very unique experience, but all it manages to do is be way too long, frustrating, and unintentionally hilarious
The Partisan Spy:
Waking is a gamified SELF-REFLECTION EXERCISE, that has 2 big parts: gameplay and meditation. Being the main character of the story, you will fight your way out of a coma by killing mobs and rebuilding memories. You will run, pick-up objects, aim, shoot, and continuously select different spells to fight. As objectives are completed, a voice asks you to CLOSE YOUR EYES and invites you to travel deeply into YOUR PERSONAL MEMORIES. Waking is not a traditional action-adventure gaming experience. To experience the game as it is meant to be you need to be opened to a self-reflection experience.
Movies Games and Tech: 4 / 10 by Diogo Miguel
Ultimately, Waking is its own worst enemy, since it seems confused as to what kind of game/experience it wants itself to be. The memory sections are interesting to say the least, but Waking has burdened itself with some really average action sequences.
