Launched in 2009, the Blood Bowl series has over the years grown into one of the permanent fixtures in the portfolio of the French Cyanide Studio team. After developing its third numbered install ment (released in February 2023), the creators set to work on the next project under this banner. We are talking about Warhammer Blood Bowl, in keeping with the tradition of the series being a kind of hybrid of turn-based strategy and sports game.
In Warhammer Blood Bowl we watch the action from a bird's eye view. As in previous Warhammer Blood Bowl titles, the mainstay of gameplay are American soccer matches, in which victory comes from both tactical play and elimination of opponents. The game is played in turn-based mode, and during the course of the game we give the players instructions on how to move around the field and perform certain actions.
The developers were tempted to implement some novelties and improvements. For the purposes of this project, the rules have been updated, squads have been refreshed, new gameplay and tutorials have been developed, and a previously unavailable mode has been prepared.
The authors put at our disposal a number of factions that we can lead to victory. In addition to elves, orcs and dwarves we will find here, among others, dark elves, lizard folk, as well as new to the series - the Sepulcher Kings and Bretons. Each of them has unique strengths and weaknesses, and as we progress we develop and modify them, adapting them to individual preferences.
Warhammer Blood Bowl can be played solo or in multiplayer mode over the Internet. In the Rumble module, debuting in the series, we play 30-minute "intimate" matches, which are both faster and more intense.
The production is built around seasonal content and a competitive-based ecosystem, culminating in an annual World Championship.
