Game mechanics

In Wave Break we observe the action from the third person perspective (TPP). During the game we sit behind the steering wheel of motorboats and take part in unusual battles, in which dexterity and reflexes are equally important as accuracy and perceptiveness. The battles include not only shooting enemies (which we do by using an extensive arsenal found on the maps), but also performing spectacular tricks.

Just like while skateboarding, we can jump over obstacles, grind through barriers and soar through the air on ramps, performing various stunts. Our feats are constantly scored and to get the best score we have to link them in impressive combos. In addition, after charging a special bar we can activate a mode that allows us to perform difficult, but spectacular and highest-scoring tricks, as well as impressive shooting of enemies in slow motion.

The game takes place on various maps, among which we can find both tropical beaches and icy tundra, a picturesque canyon or futuristic city. As we progress we gain new skills, increase our character's stats, as well as buy new boats and purchase various cosmetic elements.

Game modes

Wave Break allows to play solo or in multiplayer mode over the Internet or on the split screen. There is a story campaign to check out, divided into missions, in which we perform tasks that evoke associations with those from the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater series. They are based on performing specific tricks in specific places, destroying selected elements of the environment, getting letters that make up the words BREAK or COMBO or even searching for hidden tapes. Apart from that, the game gives us at our disposal modes based on competition. We are talking about Deathmatch, where the player who is the last to stay alive wins, Trick Attack, where the victory goes to the player who collects the most points for tricks, and also about Turf War, where we fight for control over particular parts of the map. In addition, an extensive editor has been implemented in the game, allowing us to create our own maps (we can do it independently or together with other players) and share them with the whole community.

Technical aspects

Wave Break graphic design is kept in a colourful, cartoon style. Gameplay is accompanied by fast, synthwave soundtrack.
