Wild 9 PS1

Wild 9 is a humorous SF 2.5D platformer. The title stands out from other similar productions with combat mechanics and design of arcade challenges, which assume the use of the main character's unique weapon.

Story

Wex Major, a young man and a member of a group of misfits called Wild 9, becomes the target of the sinister Karn. A 376 year old being wants to enslave all inhabitants of the universe and plans to use a powerful object, the Rig, which is in the possession of Wex. When Karn, implementing his cunning plan, kidnaps the protagonist's companions, the adventurer sets out to rescue them. He must visit a number of different worlds in which his companions were imprisoned, liberate them, and defeat the tyrant once and for all.

Mechanics

Wild 9 is a 2.5D platformerm game, in which, apart from numerous arcade elements, many opponents are waiting for the player. The key element of fun is the Rig, a weapon that enables the main character to grab enemies and items. Using a beam of energy, the main character eliminates adversaries, solves simple logic puzzles and overcomes arcade challenges. Wex can also use additional equipment such as grenades and homing rockets.

In order to diversify the fun, the devs have prepared several additional types of levels. The players will find challenging new stages in which the hero sits on the back of a cosmic beast, rides a jet bike or drops freely from a high altitude.

Technical aspects

Wild 9 is distinguished by caricatural, exaggerated animations and grotesque humour, elements that characterize another work the devs, Earthworm Jim. The style of the game resembles a combination of a science fiction movie with a cartoon.
