Windsurf Willy is an arcade game prepared by Silmarils company, dealing with the subject of crazy races on a windsurfing board. Players playing the role of one of the players must not only swim a short distance in the set time, but also show off spectacular acrobatics, which will be judged by demanding referees on an ongoing basis.
The program offers fifteen stages, which throw us into the waters of various countries scattered all over the globe. You can modify the difficulty level using the options in the main menu before you start the game. The program additionally raises the bar with each subsequent race. Before we get on the water, we also choose the right windsurfing board. They differ not only in speed, but also in "ease of use" - some will be more susceptible to performing spectacular jumps, others less. During the race we observe our daredevil from the third person's perspective. The point is to cross the designated distance in a predetermined time, at the same time earning as many points for stunts as possible. It is also important to avoid the many obstacles that will arise on the horizon. Contact with a floating barrel or a beach-goer causes an immediate fall, and thus, the loss of precious seconds.
As is usually the case with Silmarils, the visuals evoke mixed feelings. On the one hand, the authors should be praised for their attempt to create detailed graphics, on the other hand, they should be acclaimed for bad colour solutions. The first stage - Kenya - is irritated by the brown liquid, which resembles more sludge than the exotic sea. In other parts of the world it is definitely better (especially where the water is blue), but the first impression is left by a certain disgust. The animation of our competitor and the obstacles drifting in the area is also sparkling, but we must honestly admit that for the year of production (1989) it is quite good in this respect.
