The sixth installment in the official World Rally Championship video game series, created by French studio Kylotonn Games. As per tradition, WRC 6 features all the official rounds of the 2016 season, including the China Rally, returning to the schedule after several years of break.
WRC 6 for PC, PS4 and XONE is another inslatment in the series that began in 2010, based on the World Rally Championship license, and also the official game of the rallying series. It was once again developed by French studio Kylotonn Games, known for such racing games as Truck Racer or Motorcycle Club, as well as the FPS Bet on Solder and the hunting game Hunter's Trophy.
In WRC 6 you can participate in another series of exciting races, based on the current World Rally Championships season. The game features all fourteen rounds of the 2016 season, including the China Rally, returning to the schedule after several years of break. Thanks to the official FIA licensing, the game also includes all the drivers, pilots, and teams participating in the WRC, as well as the ones participating in the WRC-2 and Junior WRC.
In terms of mechanics, WRC 6 introduces several key innovations, most of which was based on the feedback on the previous instalment from the players themselves.The information was dutifully gathered by the Kylotonn Games Team, for whom WRC 5 was the first classic racing game they have ever made. Compared to the rather short OS races in the previous instalment, taking place on wide tracks, now the sections are longer, while the roads are narrower and more bumpy. The driving and damage system have been improved in order to meet more expectations of the WRC fans.
As per tradition, the sixth instalment in the WRC series features a wide range of game modes, from a user-friendyl tutorial, through the expansive career mode, to special stage races. There's also a multiplayer mode, either in the online mode or the hot seat mode. The eSports WRC mode, a novel multiplayer system introduced in WRC 5, had been upgraded. In this mode, players from all over the world strive to achieve the best time possible on individual special stages, with every player being allowed one try per day. The weekend session winners are invited to participate in the semifinals, and then finals, in which one of them becomes the eSports World Rally Champion.
Compared to its predecessor, WRC 6 for PC, PS4 and XONE features visibly improved visual and audio layer. Since it was the first game in the series created strictly for PC and eight generation consoles, the Kylotonn Games developers could focus on upgrading the graphics (better textures, day cycle or advanced weather effects) and the audio (car engine and environment sounds) in order to make the gameplay appear even more realistic.

World Rally Championship 6 has some bright spots, including plenty of courses and types of vehicles to choose from. The negatives bring the overall product down below the positives, including bad frame-rate issues and questionable gameplay elements. If you are a massive fan of rally racing, you'll still enjoy this title. Everyone else should look elsewhere for their fix on racing.

Turning its back on the options that made WRC 5 accessible to casual players and hardened rally fans alike means WRC 6 simply won't appeal to many people. It's a title resolutely aimed at the hardcore racer, with a stupid penalty system, twitchy handling and as steep a difficulty curve as you can get in a racing game. It's especially galling, as you can see some clear improvements here. I've played plenty of sim racers in the past and enjoyed myself, but playing WRC 6 feels like a thankless chore. Die-hard rallysport fans/masochists need only apply.

WRC 6 is a great step forward for the franchise and can be good fun at times, though the faults it contains mean that it doesn’t really put in a serious challenge to DIRT Rally for the console rallying crown. Nonetheless, there's enough enjoyment on offer to make it a decent alternative for those who are looking for something a bit less hardcore.
