Yuoni is an action horror game developed by Japanese studio Tricore. The team previously created the VR adventure game Yuoni: Rises, set in the same universe.
The story is set in Japan in 1990. We take on the role of Ai, a primary school student who finds herself in a bizarre spirit world where there is an endless sunset. In this place, the protagonist is forced to play childish games with her life at stake.
In Yuoni, events are observed from a first-person perspective. The gameplay is a variation on two children's games - hide-and-seek and tag. In the first, we have to explore locations in search of useful items. In the second, we use these finds in our attempts to escape from a nightmarish world.
The locations are filled with ghosts. All spirits are either blind or deaf. The heroine has no combat skills, so she must avoid detection and sneak past enemies. We can, for example, hide behind objects and in wardrobes, as well as hold our breath for short periods. Sometimes it is necessary to walk slowly past the wraiths, while in other situations we must decide to make a desperate run, trying to escape the threat
During the game we can visit three locations - the hospital, the interior of the house and the school. They are supernaturally connected, so that walking through a door in one can take us to another of these places.
Yuoni features single player mode only. After completing the game, an additional mode is unlocked, with a new ending, extra storylines and a higher difficulty level.
Game mode: single player
