This page of the guide to Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy explains how to accumulate experience points to advance to the next levels and unlock new abilities of the Guardians of the Galaxy.
Gathering XP - general information
What's most important is that in Guardians of the Galaxy the experience points are granted only for winning fights. You won't get them for completing quests, making important calls, or other such activities.
The vast majority of the battles in the game is mandatory. The game allows you to skip single battles, but you shouldn't do that if you want to get XP for them as well.
Once you've won a fight, you'll see how many points you got and an XP bar. Every time the bar fills, you will level up and receive a development point, which you can spend on new characters' abilities.
Momentum - gaining bonus XP
The number of XP points received after a battle will change. Only the the basic XP reward remains unchanged. You can earn additional experience points thanks to the so-called Momentum. Thanks to this mechanic using different types of attacks is rewarded appropriately. These can be e.g. various blaster attacks, elements, hand-to-hand combat or using abilities and special attacks.
As you use different attacks you will see the momentum bar filling up on the left side of the screen. Unfortunately, this mechanic works both ways, so staying idle or repeating the same attack over and over can drain the bar.
At the end of each battle, you will receive information about the basic experience points you got and about the bonus XP for the momentum bar. In our case (see picture) we got additional 150 XP for a good single battle.
We recommend diversifying the attacks in every battle, so that you can level up faster and unlock all the characters' abilities sooner, which will allow you to use them longer.
