2020 Was a Spectacular Year for Epic Games Store

We know how much we spent on games on Epic Games Store in 2020, and how many accounts have already been created on the platform. All thanks to the latest report.

IN A NUTSHELL:
  1. Epic Games Store has now more than 160 million users;
  2. In 2020, players spen a total of $700 million on purchases on EGS;
  3. The most popular games on the store include Fortnite, Grand Theft Auto 5 and Assassin's Creed: Valhalla.

Epic Games has published a rather extensive summary for 2020, in which it boasts, among other things, stats on the number of registered users or the amount of money spent on the games in its virtual store.

The American company boasts most about how strongly the EGS community has grown. We are talking about 160 million consumers who have decided to create their accounts on the said platform. In turn, the average number of active users per day is 31.3 million, which is an increase of 192% compared to 2019.

Epic has also raked in quite a bit of money over the past several months as per the fact that it very often gives away games for free, as well as offers endless discount coupons on selected titles. In 2020, a total of $700 million was spent in Epic Games Store, of which $265 million was paid for third-party games (games from publishers other than EG). However, not everyone was throwing money left and right, some preferred to pick up free titles - this happened over 750 million times.

From other data that may somehow interest the average internet user, it's also worth mentioning the most popular 2020 games available on EGS. Among them we can find Fortnite, of course, but it is accompanied by 2 other free-to-play positions, namely Rocket League and Rogue Company. GTA V also broke the bank, but it shouldn't come as a surprise since it was available for free for an entire week. AAA titles on the list include Borderlands 3, Assassin's Creed: Valhalla, and Godfall. Less obvious titles, which got to the top 10 list, are Satisfactory, SnowRunner and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2.

His adventure with journalism began with a personal blog, the name of which is no longer worth quoting. Then he interpreted Iranian dramas and the Joker, writing for cinematography journal, which, sadly, no longer exists. His writing credentials include a degree in film studies, but his thesis was strictly devoted to video games. He has been writing for Gamepressure since March 2020, first writing a lot about movies, then in the newsroom, and eventually, he became a specialist in everything. He currently edits and writes articles and features. A long-time enthusiast of the most bizarre indie games and arthouse cinema. He idolizes surrealism and postmodernism. He appreciates the power of absurdity. Which is probably why he also tried soccer refereeing for 2 years (with so-so results). He tends to over-philosophize, so watch out.
