Version 1.0 of Baldur's Gate III will debut any day now. This will be one of the most important RPG launches of recent years. The scale of the project even raises concerns among other developers creating in the genre. Two weeks ago we wrote that some developers are afraid that BG3 may set a new standard to which all other items in this category will later be compared. Director of Baldur's Gate III and co-founder of Larian, Swen Vincke, reassures however, that nothing of the sort will happen.

  1. Swen Vincke claims that BG3 will not set this kind of definitive standard, as something like this is simply impossible.
  2. The developer explains that if someone wants to make a game similar to Baldur's Gate III, it will obviously require a huge amount of work. Direct competition with Larian will also not be facilitated by the fact that it is a team very experienced in terms of creating RPG titles. Nevertheless Vincke assures that there will always be plenty of room on the market for productions of other types in the genre, including those of smaller scale and ambition.
  3. Swen Vincke cited, as an example of a similar situation, the first part of Assassin's Creed. When the game was released in 2007, many developers feared that all games would have to equal Ubisoft's hit. In reality, nothing of the sort happened. Further titles of a much smaller scale are produced, and in the category of expensive open-world projects, many other developers later set new standards in various aspects of gameplay and setting.

Recall that version 1.0 of Baldur's Gate 3 will debut on PC the day after tomorrow, i.e. on August 3, thus ending the early access period that lasted almost three years. In turn, the PlayStation 5 console version will be released on September 6.
