X-Men ’97 episode 5 titled Remember It will indeed be worth remembering. It featured important events in the world of mutants who were supposed to have their safe place in the world. However, it turned into their hell in this brutal episode, in which it seems that many mutants died, including two significant characters – Magneto and Gambit. What about Gambit after X-Men '97 episode 5?

Gambit is a member of the X-Men, present in the series from the very beginning. He is an important person in the entire group who seemed to be the least willing to make sacrifices, yet he was the one who sacrificed himself to stop the Wild Sentinel attack. The fan favorite did a show-off number that everyone is sure to remember, stopping an Omega-level threat without being an Omega-level mutant himself. He did something heroic, enraged by the deaths of Magneto and Morlocks and to stop more deaths, as well as to save Rogue.

After the battle is over, we can see Gambit's body, mourned by Rogue, who utters heartbreaking words that may worry fans of the character - "I can't feel you." This means that Gambit really died in this clash, which is evident from his wounded body.

Is there a chance to save Gambit?

Death in comics very often isn’t something permanent. Heroes very often come back to life in different ways, so in case of many deaths in this episode it could be the same, although in the case of Gambit it seems that this death is something permanent. The fan favorite unfortunately didn't have many ways to return in the comics, he only cheated death once, and that was solely due to the fact that he died in Otherworld. This time, however, he suffered death in the real world, which could mean that Gambit won't return, and the creators showed us his body to confirm this.

However, there is some small chance that his fate will be reversed. Episode 5 briefly featured Cable from the future, who wanted to warn his mother, Madelyne Pryor, about the tragedy in Genosha. Unfortunately, he didn’t manage to prevent it, but it is possible that this hero didn’t say the last word and will still return from the future, perhaps saving Gambit and the others. After all, more than once and more than twice in the comic books heroes were saved precisely with the help of time travel.
