Baldur's Gate 3 is a huge game, but we have known for a long time that there is still room for its further development. As it turns out, BG 3 may receive new races in the future, or at least the developers do not rule out such a possibility.

To be clear: for now, Larian Studios has no exact plans, as they are focusing on updates to the third Baldur's Gate (which can be really sizable). Nevertheless, Adam Smith, the game's lead writer (yes, the one from the "bear" scene), mentioned in an interview with Charley "itsCharleyytho" Hodson of the Xbox On channel (via Twitch / Reddit) that while the developers haven't decided anything concrete, the team hasn't ruled out adding one of the many races of Dungeons and Dragons absent in BG 3 in playable form (for example, goblins, kobolds and aasimar).

"We are not currently stopping updating the game and will continue to do so. For the time being, we have no specific plans for new races, but we are not saying no. For now I can only tell you that there will be further updates, we are not finished yet," he said.

Smith also admitted that the studio deliberately did not add certain elements to the game, whether because they "didn't fit" with the story or were simply postponed for the future. The developer knows that "there is already a lot" of content in Baldur's Gate 3, but even so, the team does not want to completely abandon unused ideas.

In other words, the developers are open to further development of BG 3 not just in updates with bug fixes or minor additions. Nevertheless, they have nothing to announce for now.
