- The first mod to disable the VR mode in Half-Life: Alyx has appeared on the Internet.
- The mod is working, but there are still a lot of bugs and errors at the moment.
- Installing the mod comes down to copying a set of files and running the game with the appropriate parameters.
Recently, first evidence that Half-Life: Alyx can be launched without VR goggles have appeared on the web. However, the method presented at the time soon stopped working. However, an unofficial modification has been prepared, which enables us to disable the VR mode in a relatively simple way. All this in less than a week after the game was released...
At this point, it is too early for enthusiasm, because the mod is at a very early stage of development. That is why there are some things that need to be cleaned up. Either way, the mod enables us to run Half-Life: Alyx without VR goggles, which is more than noteworthy in itself.
To play Half-Life: Alyx with mouse and keyboard we have to download relevant data pack and copy the files to the game folder. Then run the title with the following parameters:
-novr -console -nocrashdialog -retail -allowdebug -vconport 29000 -vcon -dev -w 1920 -h 1080 -sv_autojump 1
As for what we're going to see, let's not get our hopes too high. The mod uses the arsenal from Half-Life 2, and we won't see three-dimensional weapon models on screen. In addition, the mechanics of jumping is very rough at this moment, and the locations must be loaded manually.
Anyway, you can download the mod here. Please remember, that all modifications are made at your own risk!
If you want to see how the mod looks in action, we refer to the video below. However, it looks like it's only a matter of time before we see more refined modifications that will enable us to fully enjoy H-L:A without having to buy VR goggles.
