Here's NFS Unbound Without the Cartoonish Effects

A redesign has appeared on the Internet that shows how Need for Speed Unbound would look without the cartoonish effects.

One of the hallmarks of Need for Speed Unbound are the cartoonish effects visible while driving, which we can't fully turn off. A certain Internet user, however, decided to present what the game would look like if such an option existed.

The following video was published by a youtuber known as CROWNED. It shows a comparison of various maneuvers with the effects turned on and off. I don't know about you, but for me the solution introduced by Criterion Games is impressive. The whole thing creates quite a unique atmosphere and, surprisingly, looks quite consistent. Depriving the title of these effects, all we are left with is not very impressive smoke from under the wheels.. It is not something that would be memorable.

Keep in mind that this video was created with the help of external software - this is not a publicly available mod. As I mentioned earlier, at this point there is no way to disable these effects on your own from within the game (you can at most choose a variant that looks a bit more modest and natural than the others). However, it is possible that one of the future updates will introduce such an option - or, more likely, players will take matters into their own hands and release a dedicated mod.

It is worth recalling that Need for Speed Unbound is an exceptionally successful installment of the series (compared to other parts released in recent years). The title received a very warm reception from journalists - the average rating of the PS5 version on Metacritic is currently 78%.
