Overwatch 2's Battle Pass Expects Changes; Blizzard Promises Improvements

Blizzard is going to make quite a few changes to the Battle Pass for the next season, which will begin in Overwatch 2 on December 6. Players can look forward to additional skins that will join the other rewards already offered.

Within the first month of its release Overwatch 2 attracted some 35 million players, but not everyone is happy with the changes and innovations introduced by the devs. The criticism from fans is mainly aimed at the Battle Pass, which was introduced to replace the loot boxes known from the first installment.

The pass, apart from cosmetic items, does not give virtual coins that can be spent on new skins. In order to get them, players have to reach into their wallets, and sometimes quite deep, as they are not cheap. It turns out that Blizzard isn't entirely happy with this idea either, so it's preparing some new features.

The game's executive producer Jared Neuss revealed in a recent blog post that in the second season, starting as early as next month, the Battle Pass will see overhauled reward structure, so that skins can be earned more often through gameplay. This will encourage players to get more involved in virtual skirmishes and prevent them from reaching for their payment cards too often.

Battle Pass changes will provide more skins

Each event of the second season will provide a new skin to acquire, in addition to the cosmetic rewards already offered. The Twitch Drops program will also continue, enabling players to earn additional skins and bonuses by watching streams of their favorite content creators.

This is just the beginning of the novelties, as we can expect more highlights in Battle Pass for the third season, which is likely to launch in February 2023, as well as in the following seasons. There will be more interesting challenges and more exciting progression systems focused on gameplay. Neuss did not want to reveal details for now, assuring only that we will get to know them soon.

Blizzard also intends to adjust experience bonuses for players who choose the support role. It will also try to solve the problem of waiting too long for people choosing other roles to join the game. In addition, the company is working on ideas to make support roles more fun and rewarding.

Time will tell how much Blizzard's pending changes will appeal to fans of this online shooter. As a reminder, the second season, in addition to the new Battle Pass, will provide players with an additional map and another character, the tank Ramattra.

Overwatch 2 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, XOne, XSX/S and Switch.
