Recently, there has been a noticeable increase in the number of frustrated Halo and Call of Duty: Warzone players on Xbox consoles, caused by the inability to turn off crossplay with PC users. Internet users express their dissatisfaction with this fact in comments on Reddit and in Halo forum threads. Aside from the obvious differences between gamepad and keyboard gameplay, many people's experiences are negatively impacted by the numerous cheat programs available on PC. The premise of crossplay was to integrate users of different platforms, but that turned into a huge resentment after a while. Although Phil Spencer, the head of Xbox, promised back in 2016 that such a situation would not happen, the reality is quite different. Interestingly, many PC gamers claim that console gamers are the ones with the advantage in FPS games, because of the aim assistance they can use.
In> March 2016, in an interview with Gamespot, Spencer said:
"I'll never force somebody in our games whose playing with a controller or a mouse and keyboard to play against somebody with a different control scheme. Mouse and keyboard rotation speed is faster than controller. We know that, you'll lose."
6 years later, that statement is not true for all titles. This can be seen in the case of Call of Duty: Warzone, where Xbox owners are unable to continue playing when crossplay is disabled (unlike PlayStation users). The situation is similar with Halo Infinite.
Microsoft has long been a big proponent of crossplay, and has spoken openly about it. The company wanted to enable friends who share platforms to play together. The solution was introduced with great fanfare, but as it happens with innovations, neither the creators nor the users were able to foresee all the problems that may arise.
As we mentioned in yesterday's article about the idea of a universal ban list for PC and consoles from different companies, the head of Xbox is working on eliminating the problem of cheaters on different platforms. This can be considered as a kind of solution, because if the rule-breaker is completely cut off from the game, he will not cause trouble to anyone. However, it is impossible to ban everyone, and differences in gameplay will still exist. Gamers want simple methods, especially since Sony is able to provide them.
