Horizon and Days Gone Are Not All - Sony Will Publish More PlayStation Games on PC

PlayStation will continue to invest in the PC gaming market. However, the priority will always be consoles, and it's the players using this platform that will play PS Studios games first.

IN A NUTSHELL:
  • PlayStation intends to continue investing in conversions of its games for PC.
  • However, they will be released much later than console versions.
  • They will also never be developed at the expense of PlayStation titles.

It looks like the recent PC ports of Horizon: Zero Dawn and Days Gone weren't a one-off stunt. Sony intends to continue the trend of porting PlayStation titles to PC. However, this does not mean that players of this platform will be treated in the same way as console owners. Hermen Hulst, head of PS Studios, explained his approach to this issue in an interview with PlayStation.Blog.

"We’re still early on in our planning for PC. And Horizon Zero Dawn has been very successful. I think it shows there’s an appetite from gamers outside the PlayStation ecosystem to experience the amazing portfolio of games that PlayStation fans have enjoyed for years.

But I want to emphasize that PlayStation will remain the best place to play our PlayStation Studios titles at launch. But we do value PC gamers, and we’ll continue to look at the right times to launch each game. Bend Studio just released the PC version of Days Gone on May 18. So that’s about two years after the PS4 release.

And I hope that a new set of fans can and will enjoy that title. And that’s the goal — we want to reach new gamers who haven’t yet experienced the great stories, characters, and worlds that we’ve built. Releasing games on PC will not come ever at the expense of building an exciting lineup of great console games."

So it seems that PlayStation still intends to focus mainly on its console. The platform's owners will be able to play new titles on the day of their release and use a wide range of titles prepare for them by PS Studios.

The company's policy towards the PC market can be seen as a kind of incentive to buy a console. Yes, PC users will be able to play the most important games associated with PlayStation, but they will do so only about two years after their release. So the message is simple - if you want to fully enjoy the titles we make, buy a console.
