Star Citizen Fundraiser Campaign Exceeds $400 Million

More than 3 million players have already supported the development of Star Citizen, which translates into an incredible amount of several hundred million dollars pledged to the ongoing development of this space sim.

IN A NUTSHELL:
  1. The fundraiser for Star Citizen has already been backed by over 3 million people;
  2. Such number of donors has translated into another milestone - 400 million dollars pledged.

The amount of money players have donated to the development Star Citizen exceeded $400 million yesterday. As noted by Eurogamer (based on a website monitoring live game stats), this amount was achieved thanks to the contribution of more than three million people who play the space MMO.

It is worth bearing in mind the fact that this is not the first time that fans of Star Citizen surprise with the amount of their contributions - after all, already in March the total amount of pledges exceeded 350 million dollars. It's easy to see, then, that not only the gameplay is from outer space, but also the funds allocated for the development of the project led by Chris Roberts and his Cloud Imperium Games. Thus Star Citizen still proudly holds the title of one of the largest crowdfunding projects in history.

It also does not change the fact that Star Citizen is a controversial production in terms of development cycle - it's been in in the works for nine years, and players still have access only to the alpha version. The situation with the single player campaign Squadron 42 is also interesting. Last year, Roberts admitted that his team still has a long way to go before this module even enters the beta phase.
