The Witcher 3 is not the last we've seen of the franchise

While The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt concludes the trilogy, CD Projekt RED says that even more big Witcher games in the future are quite possible.

It is unlikely that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is the last big game set in this fantasy universe. Although Geralt’s trilogy is over, CD Projekt RED admitted there is a good chance that they will create another AAA Witcher title in the future. Here’s what the company’s president Adam Kicinski said during the latest financial call when asked whether The Witcher 3 was the last in the series, except for Gwent: The Witcher Card Game:

The Witcher has been designed as a trilogy. A trilogy cannot have a fourth part. Nonetheless, we like this universe very much, we’ve invested 15 years of our lives and a lot of money in it… we’ll think about it some day. (…) We think rationally. We happen to have weird ideas occassionally, but generally we think rationally. We have full rights to these games, they are ours. We’ve pumped huge money into their marketing, the brand is strong… I think you can answer that question for yourself.

That’s not surprising, especially when you consider that the series moved 25 million copies so far. As much as we'd like to see another Witcher game though, it probably won’t happen very soon. This year belongs to Gwent, which is currently in closed beta and is about to move to open beta (on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4) this spring. CD Projekt is also planning to organize a large Gwent e-sport championship.

However, the biggest project for CD Projekt now is Cyberpunk 2077. There’s a team of 300 people working on it, which is three times bigger than that of Gwent’s. Interestingly, though, the company would like to do two AAA games at the same time, which is why they will be hiring new people in CD Projekt RED.
