Steam's New MMORPG Ripped to Shreds; Devs Weren't Ready For This

Wayfinder, an MMORPG that was released a few days ago in Early Access on Steam, is receiving a slew of critical reviews. One of the reasons is the dire state of the servers, which makes it virtually impossible to play.

It's only been a few days since the debut of Wayfinder in Early Access on Steam, and it's already clear that there is a multitude of things to improve. This is evidenced by the MMORPG's ratings, which are overwhelmingly negative.

It looks like the devs at Airship Syndicate will have a busy next few weeks before them.

Very hollow servers

Currently Wayfinder's ratings on Steam do not look good. Only 30% of the more than 9300 player reviews are positive, which is considered a "mostly negative" reception.

But what exactly is the problem? It turns out that it lies not in the quality of the game itself, but in the disastrous condition of the servers, which were clearly not prepared for a large number of simultaneous players.

Plenty of people report that in order to play Wayfinder one has to spend several hours in queues, and even successfully logging in does not guarantee peaceful gameplay, as it is still possible to get kicked off the server.

Below we cite some opinions from Steam:

"This is some kind of massacre, I do not remember a worse game launch for a very long time. Server queue? I can understand it for various reasons, but this is a total disaster of technical infrastructure and incompetence. You want to log in, you are in a queue of several thousand users, after which it kicks you out and a prompt from the devs pops up: "Turn off the game for 10-15 minutes". You have been in the queue for more than 2h, GOT IT!!!! You finally made it, and here again an error while logging into the queue - maybe the next day will be better? Nothing could be further from the truth, you enter the game and it kicks you out at the first loading screen. Out of the 22h I have logged in on my account, I don't even know if I've played a total of 3h, the longest session of which lasted about 40 minutes because I didn't change locations. Don't be an idiot like me and don't spend money on this #@@$%%!," wrote user Kanibalek.

"Currently, the title is not playable.

The servers can only hold 3,000 players at a time.

The data of Steam shows 20,000 people in the game, but the queue is around 17,000 place.

The game at launch has silly bugs.

After choosing a character for the tutorial, completing it and wanting to choose a new character (there are 3 available), we are thrown back to the menu and rejoin the queue for another hour or two of waiting to test another character.

It will be like with New World, where the game got a grip a year after its release."

There is potential

Perhaps, if the technical issues can be resolved, players will forgive this abysmal launch, because as some point out - the game has potential. If we manage to log in, we get an enjoyable combat system, extensive character progression options, a system for building your own weapons, etc.

As we can read in the review of user D4nnyS_o7

"The game, despite technical issues (servers kicking people, entry only after 3 days of standing in line), has a pleasant combat system, based on leveling up both characters and weapons. Instances with modifiers, solving logic puzzles or discovering previously inaccessible rooms by brute force, behind which there is some form of reward (not always a treasure chest), and at the end, waves of monsters or the challenging Boss itself (depending on the difficulty level set, of course)."

It's possible that underneath the layer of disastrous network infrastructure, however, lies a quite enjoyable MMORPG. Well, it's only early access. Devs, get to work!
