Last update: 02 June 2022

Our guide to Tunic contains key information about the basic and more complex game mechanics, the locations of the most important weapons and items, the description of the game world, and its other basic elements beyond the gameplay.

For starters, we have prepared pages that describe the basics of the game. You can see a list of helpful starting tips and a detailed description of the combat system (including parrying and dodging). You will also get to know how in Tunic you can increase stats and learn about the hidden interactions and mechanics, without which it is impossible or very difficult to complete the game. We have prepared a full list of enemies and items with a short description of them for you. We also described the endings of the game and how to unlock them.

Then, there is a FAQ section, i.e. the most important questions about the game with detailed answers. From it, you will learn how to get a sword, shield, wand, lantern, magic ball, and dash, the items necessary during the game, along with a detailed description of ways to get them for each of them. We will also explain how in Tunic work: saving, fast travel, health regeneration, changing the level difficulty, and the new game plus mode.

The guide also includes tips that will help you deal with bosses easily. There are only a few of them in the game, but each can be problematic and force you to prepare tactics. We have described their attacks and ways to defeat the biggest adversaries.

Tunic has several different locations and some information from the section about them you might find useful. We have described their appearance, characteristics, important passages, and viewpoints of each of them, as well as their location based on the starting location.

Finally, you will be able to read the appendix, in which we have included additional information, such as hardware requirements, controls, language versions, and the length of the game. They will certainly prove helpful before you start your adventure with the cute fox.

Tunic: Beginner's tips

  1. Find the sword and shield as soon as possible. These two basic gears will help you fight fairly even duels with your opponents, and without a weapon and protection against damage, it is very easy to die. The above weapons are hidden in the two initial locations in the game.
  2. Check every corner of the visited locations carefully. It is not difficult to miss hidden passages leading to optional places, but also these crucial for advancing the story. Above all, don't be fooled by perspective. Sometimes you might be a few pixels away from discovering secret corridors.
  3. Play even more carefully after you die. If you are defeated by an opponent, you drop some of the collected currency at the place of your death. If you die again before retrieving it, it'll be lost. So if you don't want to lose your hard-earned money, pay attention to your every move.
  4. Collect every instruction you find on your way. It is the only help and tips prepared by the developers for players. On a scrap of paper you find, you can get a fragment of a map, descriptions of enemies, further directions, or a way to solve a puzzle.
  5. If you can't move on or interact with an object, go somewhere else and keep playing. Sooner or later, the game will give you a clue about what to do, or you will become stronger or gain the ability that will allow you to get to the previously inaccessible place. Never reduce your options to one path.

Tunic: Language versions

Tunic is available in the various language versions in the form of subtitles. It should be noted that the lack of dubbing is related to the lack of any dialogues in the game. In addition, it should be emphasized that most of the text in the game was written in a phonemic cipher designed to be read in English. More on this topic we wrote on the Language versions page.

Tunic: Game's length

The length of Tunic depends on the player's skill and the selected difficulty level. We can assume that the average time to complete the main storyline is about 8 to 10 hours. Remember that there are secrets scattered all over the world that will take an extra couple of hours to find. In addition, you can re-start a game using the new game plus option, keeping your weapons and stats. For more information, see the Game's Length page.
