Does World War Z have a matchmaking system? World War Z guide, tips

Last update: 08 May 2019

World War Z is a game that can be played with AI controlled bots, in the offline mode (more can be found in the "Can you play World War Z offline?" chapter of this guide), allowing players without friends to play with to have fun with the game as well. What if one does not have a premade squad and still wants to play with "living" people, instead of bots? Fortunately, the game utilizes a matchmaking system, described in detail in this chapter.

What is the matchmaking system?

The matchmaking system is a mechanic that can be found in any MMORPG title, although today it appears in almost all titles focusing on online gameplay and/or strict cooperation of players. The same concept applies to World War Z. Thanks to matchmaking, one can easily find other players willing to play a specific mission at a specific time.

Note - the time required to find other players depends entirely on the time you are planning to play. It will be significantly easier to find people willing to play with you during peak hours (from 6 PM to 12 AM) than early in the morning or late at night. The more players are online, the quicker the game will match someone with you.

How to use the matchmaking system?

Unlike other titles, the matchmaking system in World War Z does not require any action from the player. In order to make use of it, you just need to select "Offline mode" in the main menu, pick the episode you want to play and wait for the system to find other players to play with. You do not need to wait for a full team - the game can be started (all players must press the "Ready" button) and all the empty places in the team will be filled with AI controlled bots. The game will still be matchmaking for the players - if someone is found during a mission, he/she will take over the bot and join the team.
