What is The Dark Pictures: House of Ashes?

The third installment in the rather underrated The Dark Pictures Anthology series. We follow American soldiers from a third-person perspective as they explore the ancient underground and discover an ancient evil that has been dormant for centuries. The whole thing is characterized by a very cinematic atmosphere, and the gameplay consists mainly of solving various puzzles and overcoming obstacles – from logical, through arcade, to direct clashes with terrifying opponents.

What did it surprise us with?

High quality – significantly higher than in any of the previous installments. The latest Dark Pictures Anthology game looks great from the visual point of view, but most of all, it eliminates the biggest problems of its predecessors – boring characters, cheap jump scares and shallow storyline. Players and reviewers have praised House of Ashes for its engaging, gripping story, dense atmosphere, and pretty good QTE implementation.

Is it worth it?

The Dark Pictures: House of Ashes will surely appeal to seekers of original horror. Some gamers are even calling Supermassive Games' new offering "the Until Dawn of PC gaming" and that seems to sum up the adventure pretty well.
