Giant Patch to Reduce Warzone File Size

This week, Call of Duty: Warzone will receive another update. One of the changes introduced will be a noticeable reduction in the space taken up by the game's files on disk. Unfortunately, the patch itself will be quite large.

IN A NUTSHELL:

  1. CoD: Warzone and CoD: Modern Warfare file size will shrink after the upcoming patch;
  2. Xbox One players will see the biggest space savings, but the patch will also help those playing on PlayStation 4 and PC;
  3. You'll need to download a really big update to enjoy the changes.

Call of Duty: Warzone and Call of Duty: Black Ops - Cold War will be receiving further updates this week. Apart from adding new content, the patch for the former will introduce one important change - it will reduce the amount of disk space occupied by Infinity Ward's and Raven Software's game.

CoD: Warzone's installation files will shrink by 10.9-14.2 gigabytes (depending on the platform - 10.9 GB on PS4 and PS5, 11.8 GB on PC and 14.2 GB on Xbox). This means that the game will take up around 75-80 GB on disk - that's still a lot, but sometimes every gigabyte counts, right? Anyway, the space savings will be noticeably greater if we also have Call of Duty: Modern Warfare installed, in which case we will gain as much as 30.6 GB / 33.6 GB (PC, PS4 and PS5 / Xbox).

In this barrel (a small, but still a welcome barrel) of honey, however, there is a quite large spoon of proverbial tar. To enjoy a smaller size of Warzone, we'll first have to download an update, which equals the size of many AAA games - on consoles, the update files will "weigh" 52.4-57.8 gigabytes, with Xbox owners having to download the most. On PC, the situation is even more complicated - if we have both CoD: Warzone and CoD: Modern Warfare installed, we'll have to download a whopping 133.6 GB of update files. Well... at least it should get a bit better later on.

It's worth recalling that the size of the installation files of the latest installments of Call of Duty has been causing controversy for a long time. The affair became truly hot after the developers themselves warned that the games may not fit on the disk of the base model of the PlayStation 4 console.
