Age of Empires 4: Hold Against the Horde (The Rise of Moscow) - walkthrough

The following page of the guide to Age of Empires 4 describes the Hold Against the Horde mission in The Rise of Moscow campaign. You'll learn how to defend the city from Mongol invasion.

Once the mission begins, you will have 5 minutes to prepare for defending the city from enemy invasion. Divide your army into 3 groups and place them at the south bridge and the 2 wooden gates on the east side of the fortification.

Start hiring new military units and set up Rally Points at the Outposts. You can also summon additional troops by clicking the icon in the upper right corner of the screen.

Build a Landmark, place a Blacksmith and a Siege Workshop, and create some Siege Machines to support your troops.

The first enemy group will consist of about a dozen riders. When the task progress bar is half full, enemy troops will start appearing with siege machines and attacking from the north bridge.

Keep hiring new units and summoning reinforcements. All of your units should have at least one Monk Warrior to quickly heal the units in between raids.

Bridges should be protected by Spearmen, who won't let a squad of Mongol horsemen through, if placed correctly. Archers should stand aside to support the infantry and destroy the siege machines.

After defeating the Mongol raids, call all your units into the city. Place Archers and Crossbowmen on the walls and prepare for the final siege.

Your task will be to hold the city until all Villagers have managed to escape from it. When the first troops appear at the walls, send infantry to destroy their machines and wait for the escape progress bar to fill up.
