In Astroneer, bytes are a virtual currency you can spend on discovering new crafting schematics. Thanks to bytes you can develop your base by placing new buildings or creating new vehicles. That is why you should remember to increase your bytes on a regular basis.
How to get bytes?
Getting bytes is easy and you do it by exploring the world. Research Samples can be found in different places, e.g. caves or on the planet's surface. Usually, they are small objects in a form of crystals or seeds. Scan these Research Samples - this will give you several dozen bytes.
What are the bytes for?
Bytes can be spent on crafting schematics. For example - 1,600 bytes gives you a Small Oxygen Tank that can be placed on a vehicle, giving you a mobile source of oxygen. Open the Catalog to find all schematics - you can access this Research Catalog right from the beginning. All purchased schematics are available after interacting with the right printer.
