The story of Ubisoft Quebec

Beginning of business

The story of Ubisoft Quebec officially began on June 27, 2005. Nicolas Rioux led the newly opened studio, with Andrée Cossette serving as its co-founder. The team hit the ground running, releasing Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Critical Hour for Xbox in 2006, part of a bestselling tactical shooter series.

Licensed projects

In the following years, Ubisoft Quebec focused on smaller projects, primarily working on licensed games and ports of major titles. These projects included Open Season (2006, in collaboration with Ubisoft Montreal), Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Vegas for PSP (2006), TMNT: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for PSP and Nintendo DS (2007), Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands for PSP and Wii (2010), The Black Eyed Peas Experience for Wii (2011), and The Avengers: Battle for Earth for Xbox 360 and Wii (2012).

Meanwhile, in March 2010, Ubisoft Quebec acquired Longtail Studios, a team previously brought under the French publisher’s umbrella.

Joining the big leagues

2013 marked a turning point for Ubisoft Quebec. In September, Ubisoft announced plans to invest C$373 million in the studio, aiming to expand its staff by up to 500 employees. In the years that followed, Ubisoft Quebec steadily grew, with Mike Laidlaw joining as creative director from 2018 to 2020. W kwietniu 2019 roku ekipa przeniosla sie do nowej siedziby w dzielnicy Saint-Roch.

In 2013, Ubisoft Quebec released its own DLC for Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, titled Freedom Cry. In 2015, Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate was released, marking the first main entry in the series not developed by Ubisoft Montreal. Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey followed in 2018, and in 2020, the studio released another mythological-themed game, Immortals: Fenyx Rising.

In 2024, Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, the thirteenth main entry in the series, was announced. Although originally slated for a November release, it was ultimately postponed to February 2025.
