Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands is another chapter of a tale about a fearless Prince of Persia. This production goes back to solutions known from the trilogy that included: Sands of Time, Warrior Within, and The Two Thrones, released in the years 2003-2005. Story-wise, The Forgotten Sands fill a 7-year-long gap in the prince’s life, i.e. the events between Sands of Time and Warrior Within. It answers an important question: What caused the drastic change in the prince’s personality?
The game takes off right after the events in Sands of Time. On his exhaustive journey across the realm of Azad, the prince decides to visit his brother’s kingdom. Unexpectedly he finds a huge army storming the central palace. Without giving it a second thought he decides to use the power of Sands of Time once again in order to save the kingdom from total annihilation. This decision launches another great adventure.
The gameplay strongly resembles the system known from Sands of Time and Warrior Within. Thus, it consists of two major elements – spectacular combat and breathtaking acrobatics that the prince performs to beat the diverse levels designed by Ubisoft programmers. Again you get to use Sands of Time, which give the prince a measure of immortality, since his life is protected by the ability to reverse time. In The Forgotten Sands, the prince can additionally control forces of nature and use them to his own goals (e.g. in combat or while solving environmental puzzles).
Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands is based on Anvil game engine, which was previously used in two games in the Assassin’s Creed series, Prince of Persia from 2008, and Shaun White Snowboarding. It is also noteworthy that the protagonist is again voiced by Yuri Lowenthal (known from the first two games in the trilogy).
