15 Games That NEED to Become Movies

Hollywood often takes advantage of the most popular gaming brands. This happened in the case of Super Mario, Tomb Raider or, more recently, Uncharted. But there are still many more titles with huge potential waiting to become movies.

  2. Movie/series genre: horror
  3. Potential creators: Guillermo del Toro
  4. Is a movie actually being made? No
  5. How long it's been waiting: 7 years

Although Darkest Dungeon is a roguelike crawler with elements of adventure and RPG set in Lovecraftian horror climates, the atmosphere of horror and hopelessness taken from the game alone would be enough to serve a successful cinema adaptation.

The plot of Darkest Dungeon may seem trivial – to the castle of a dead ancestor comes his descendant, alerted by the evil lurking around the estate. The mood of corruption and senselessness of any resistance in the fight against evil is intensified by Wayne June's narration. It's hard to say if it would work as good in a movie. Guillermo del Toro, who enjoys similar vibes, could be responsible for directing it.

The author of the screenplay of Pan's Labyrinth and the showrunner of last year's anthology Cabinet of Curiosities Guillermo del Toro doesn't hide his passion to the work of Lovecraft and everything related to horror stories. If Darkest Dungeon was ever to be filmed, the Mexican director would probably try to get involved in the project.
