Frostpunk: What are Automatons?

Automatons are another important gameplay mechanic. They are giant steam robots that can work in your city. If you have one then you can notice that a working building has an additional place for hiring said robot. After that this building won't need any other workers beside that machine. Automatons can be acquired in two ways.

How to get Automatons?

Produced in a Factory

Factory building can be unlocked in the technology tree. Build it and assign workers. After that you can start producing Automatons. You can also adjust how many of them you want to create. Of course, each robot costs resources - 100 units of coal, wood and steal, and a Steam Core. This means that Automatons can't be mass produced.

Found during exploration

You can come across Automatons in various places in the world of Frostpunk. Simply reach the right spot on the map. Usually, Automatons can be found near old human settlements, e.g. one of them can be found in Bridge to Winterhome during A New Home scenario.
