An FPS with additional roguelike mechanics, made by the creators of Just Die Already and designed for coop gameplay. In Abyssus we can explore the ruins of an ancient civilization. Our goal is to fight for control over brine resources, which are a powerful energy source.
The independent studio DoubleMoose Games became known to a wide audience thanks to the humorous arcade game titled Just Die Already. The next undertaking of this team was clearly a more serious project (although not shying away from unique ideas), namely a cooperative FPS with roguelike elements under the title Abyssus.
In Abyssus the action is viewed from a first-person perspective (FPP).
During the game, we play as researchers who have been delegated to check the ruins erected by an ancient civilization. Our task is to take over the resources of brine, which is a powerful source of energy. This is not easy, because the sunken kingdom is inhabited by twisted creatures who do not like our presence in this place.
The game takes place on procedurally generated maps, and its main focus is eliminating hordes of enemies. Apart from regular enemies, which we eliminate in large quantities, much more powerful bosses stand in our way.
During dynamic battles, we make use of futuristic, "salt-based" weaponry. Our arsenal includes shotguns, machine guns, or more inventive murder tools, such as a rotary cannon.
The game allows us not only to choose suits and weapons according to individual needs and preferences, but also to modify the latter. As we progress, we also gain access to various enhancements that increase our combat potential.
Abyssus allows for single-player gameplay, but the game was designed with online coop in mind.

Game Ratings for Abyssus Video Game.
PlayStation Universe: 7.5 / 10 by John-Paul Jones
All told, Abyssus doesn't really do anything terribly new with its cooperative roguelite, FPS formula and is certainly let down by a lack of imagination in regards to its various locales. That said, the technical presentation is solid, the brinepunk setting still feels fresh, combat is fast-paced and enjoyable, the progression systems are finely tuned to the point that you always want to go back to improve your Brinehunter more and the whole affair becomes much more fun with friends. Throw in its relative budget price point (L19.99/$24.99) and Abyssus quickly presents itself as a compelling way to see through this summer and beyond.
MonsterVine: 3.5 / 5 by Branford Hubbard
Abyssus is another roguelite that could be balanced much, much better. While I’m sure a friend group could have fun as is, the sheer amount of gameplay-related things (weapons, mods) that must be unlocked could lose players’ interest before they even get to them. There is also an enhanced difficulty setting, which I’m not sure how players will tackle unless there are some extremely powerful hidden charms. The awesome aesthetic (minus the player characters) would’ve made for a great adventure into the depths, provided there were fewer jokes, but maybe a game about colonizing an ancient Aztec/Mesoamerican-inspired civilization shouldn’t think too hard about what it’s actually saying.
TheBigBois: 9 / 10 by Zachary Holmes
Abyssus is a confident, stylish roguelite shooter that nails the fundamentals—tight combat, meaningful progression, and a unique setting. While there’s room for more content and polish, the core experience is already highly addictive, whether you’re diving alone or with a squad of friends. If you enjoy FPS roguelites and want something with personality, atmosphere, and mechanical depth, this is a must-play. And with more content promised post-launch, Abyssus has all the makings of a long-term favorite in the co-op shooter space.
