PC

AeternoBlade for PC, Switch etc. is an action arcade game with RPG elements. The game was developed by a small independent Corecell Technology studio. The title is the fourth console project of this developer - the previous ones, WickedMonster Blast! and B-Units Build-It! as well as Crazy Strike Bowling, were intended for children and they were released on Wii, PlayStation 3 and Nintendo DS. AeternoBlade was originally released in 2014 on Nintendo 3DS and PS Vita consoles. The version for newer devices does not differ significantly from the originals and only has a slightly improved graphic design.

Plot

The main character of AeternoBlade is a young warrior named Freyja, who fights the demonic Beladim, who is responsible for the destruction of her hometown. At the beginning of the game, the protagonist stands face to face with her opponent and dies form his hand. However, thanks to the magical power of her sword she gets revived after a few days, so she can better prepare for the final battle and use the potential hidden in the blade. The plot is based on popular tropes and despite a few twists and turns, it will not surprise fans of fantasy stories.

Mechanics

The game was realized in the popular Metroidvania convention. This means that we are dealing with a 2.5D side-scroller presenting an extensive map, which we explore, defeating opponents and gaining treasures and new skills that unlock new locations. The combat system is simple and is based on the use of several types of attacks and uncomplicated combos. We can jump and crouch to avoid attacks. Defeated enemies leave colorful spheres providing various bonuses. Yellows act as experience points for which we buy new abilities, red regenerate health, blue magic, and green ones load a special attack bar, allowing us to use the powers to stop or alter time. WE can also modify the character by placing relics into the equipment, which provide passive bonuses for attack or defense.

Technical aspects

AeternoBlade's graphics and musical score aren't at the highest level. Although the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch versions have improved textures and character models as well as the environment by adding new details, the game still does not meet the current standards.
