Developed by the independent studio Storybird Games, Aggelos is a side-track Metroidvania game with action RPG elements. The title draws inspiration from 16-bit classics (especially the Wonder Boy franchise).
Aggelos takes us to the world of Lumen which is invaded by aggressive entities from another dimension. During gameplay, we take control of a hero who stands against the invaders. In order to defeat them, he needs to travel through the realm and find artefacts which will help him send the opponents back where they came from.
Aggelos features the side-view. During gameplay, we travel through forests, coasts, dark undergrounds, and ancient temples where we fight enemies. Among them, there are regular opponents, which are easy to beat, and huge bosses (such as dragons, giant bears, and massive birds) who are stronger and tougher.
In combat, the hero can make use of various swords and magic, combining them into amazing and deadly combinations. With the progress, the protagonist earns new abilities and equipment, so the longer we play the more difficult challenges we can take on and more locations we can visit. Apart from main missions, there are also numerous side quests given by dwellers of Lumen.
Aggelos offers 2D, pixel-art visuals in the cartoon style. Moreover, the title features a catchy, chiptune soundtrack, making the game feel even more retro.
