In March 2025, the Chinese studio Sense Games released their action RPG game, AI Limit, which blended elements of soulslike and slasher genres. The game garnered quite a number of fans, so striking while the iron is hot, the creators began working on the first expansion - it is the Eirene’s Furnace of War (working title) described here.

New features in the expansion

AI Limit: Eirene’s Furnace of War focuses on combat. The DLC introduces previously unseen enemies, including two new bosses. Additionally, the creators have enhanced the enemies we have already faced by providing them with new attack patterns.

Moreover, for this expansion, a new area with randomly generated elements has been prepared, as well as unique rematch battles where we face already defeated bosses. The new features also include character skills and changes to the character development system.

The main pros of the game

  • Free DLC: The most frequently mentioned positive aspect is that the DLC is free, which many players found surprising and generous.
  • New Gameplay Modes: The introduction of a roguelike mode, boss rush, and rematch options has been well-received, offering players new ways to engage with the game.
  • New Content: Players appreciated the addition of new bosses, weapons, spells, and outfits, along with quality-of-life improvements such as a more responsive locking system and bug fixes.
  • Replayability: The roguelike mode and boss challenges significantly extend the gameplay time, providing players with a reason to return to the game.
  • Engaging Combat: Many players praised the combat mechanics and the fun of facing new and reworked bosses, noting that they added depth to the gameplay experience.

The main cons of the game

  • Unlocking Requirements: Players expressed frustration that the new modes are only available after completing the base game, which can be a barrier for new players or those starting fresh.
  • Limited Story Content: The DLC lacks substantial narrative elements, leading some players to feel it doesn’t provide enough continuation of the main story.
  • Repetitiveness: Some users noted that the roguelike mode can become repetitive due to the limited variety in arenas and enemy encounters.
  • Performance Issues: A few players experienced performance hitches during gameplay, which detracted from the overall experience.
  • Difficulty Balance: While many enjoyed the challenge, some found the difficulty spikes and mechanics (like the heat gauge in the roguelike mode) to be frustrating or punishing.

The features or elements that are missing from the game according to users

  • More Story Content: Players expressed a desire for a more traditional DLC experience that includes new storylines, zones, or character development rather than just gameplay modes.
  • Co-op or Multiplayer Options: Some users suggested that adding cooperative gameplay or team-based challenges could enhance the experience.
  • Endless Mode or More Variety in Roguelike Elements: A request for an endless mode or more randomized elements in the roguelike gameplay was noted, as players wanted more unpredictability and variety in their runs.
  • Rewards for Boss Rematches: Players hoped for additional incentives or rewards for participating in boss rematch modes, as they felt the current system didn’t provide enough motivation.
  • Improved Customization: Some users wanted more options for character builds or customization in the roguelike mode that tied back to their progress in the main game.

Summary

  • Overall, while the DLC has been praised for its value and the new content it brings, there are clear expectations from players for more substantial narrative and gameplay features in the future.
