Anonymous;Code on PS4, PSV and Switch is a classic visual novel science fiction adventure, set in the near future. 5pb. and Mages are responsible for the production of the title. Both developers should be well known to fans of visual novel and Japanese pop culture, especially the part of it that is connected with the so-called otaku (obsessive fans of manga, anime, military or sci-fi films). These developers have made many console titles, of which only a small percentage was released in the West. Due to the semicolon in the title, Anonymous;Code may seem related to the popular series of 5bp adventure games, whose most popular representative is Steins;Gate. However, the production is the second installment of a completely new series, which, apart from the development team and the main designer and scriptwriter (Chiyomaru Shikura), thematically do not have any ties with the predecessor. The first part of the series, called Occultic;Nine, was released in 2017 on PlayStation Vita, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
Anonymous;Code takes place in Japan at the end of the 30s of the 21st century. The story begins on February 6, 2036, when the world is shaken by a powerful catastrophe caused by massive and uncontrolled errors in the operation of global computer systems. Its aftermath leads to the destruction of many of the world's largest cities. Unfortunately, according to calculations of scientists, a cataclysm has a chance to repeat itself in 2038. To find a way to stop it, engineers use the powerful Gaia supercomputer to run a simulation of the entire planet, which they hope will give them the answers they need. However, they soon discover with surprise that people living in the simulation have created their own simulator of the Earth, moreover, they slowly suspect that they themselves live in the digital world built by higher and mysterious beings. The main character of the game is a sixteen-year-old hacker Takaoka Pollon, who has a special skill that allows him to influence reality and prevent various types of tragedies.
Anonymous;Code is a classic two-dimensional visual novel. This means that for most of the game, we read and listen to the dialogues of characters, usually with little influence on them. The key element of the game is a system that allows us to record the state of reality, experience subsequent events and gain knowledge about them, and then reloading the previous "save" and use the information to change the course of events. Depending on our actions, we can unlock one of the many alternative endings.
As in Occultic;Nine, the graphics design is based entirely on two-dimensional and animated graphics. All dialogues of the characters were dubbed by professional actors.
