One of the first Polish MUD games. Arkadia is a multiplayer text-based game set in a fantasy world inspired by Warhammer and Andrzej Sapkowski's works. It offers tens of thousands of locations, swordfights, and careers such as merchant, miner, or herbalist.
Behind the creation of one of the first Polish text-based MUD games are mainly players of Genesis, who, after years of working on their project, made it available to the community in 1997. Over the decades of its operation, the free game titled Arkadia has become the subject of research and academic work.
The game world consists of two domains: the Empire, taken from Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay, and Isztar, inspired by the prose of Andrzej Sapkowski. Traveling to a different zone than the one where we started the game is possible through a long ship journey. There is hierarchy in Arkadia: each domain is overseen by a lord, under whom other wizards perform administrative functions.
We can choose from six races (including ogres and gnomes) and many professions, such as explorer, legionnaire, or hunter. Characters are developed through training, and among the skills acquired, we can find rather unusual abilities like fighting in darkness, formation fighting, climbing, sense of direction, and animal care.
Full development of a character can only be achieved through membership in one of the groups. Interaction with other players is crucial, and they can be distinguished from NPCs by a long description. Arkadia is characterized by Polish language devoid of diacritical marks.
The LMPUD Arkadia is based on the gamedriver from CDpl-5.0.4 and the mudlib CDpl-4.1.1. Both gamedriver and mudlib are derived directly from Genesis, but they were heavily modified compared to the original.
