The Life and Suffering of Sir Brante is a narrative RPG. It focuses primarily on the plot - its action takes place in a rather dark fantasy world, whose characteristic feature is that the fate of the people living there is determined by the gods already on the day of their birth. The game was developed by Sever studio and is its debut project. The publisher is the 101XP.
Plot
The Life and Suffering of Sir Brante takes place in the Great Arknian Empire - a place where life is difficult and often very short. The player assumes the role of the title hero - a man who tries to gain control over his own destiny. To do so, he will have to overcome many challenges. It is worth noting that we observe the life of the mentioned character from the first day to the last one.
Mechanics
The gameplay in The Life and Suffering of Sir Brante is similar to what we know from classic 'paper' paragraph games. The gameplay revolves around reading the text on the screen, observing the illustrations and making choices that shape the further course of the story (practically every choice has its consequences).
In the course of the game our hero's stats gradually improve (the list includes determination, sensitivity and immunity). It may also belong to various professions (e.g. judge or inquisitor) and acquires more and more skills that offer additional options and ways out of troublesome situations.
There is also a system implemented in the game, which in case of death allows the player to start the game over with the previously gained experience.
Game modes
In The Life and Suffering of Sir Brante we can play only solo. The core of the game is the story campaign.
Technical aspects
The graphics in The Life and Suffering of Sir Brante is 2D - made up entirely of the interface and hand-drawn illustrations. The artistic style of the latter refers to what we know, among others, from books or fantasy magazines. Images are maintained in a subdued colour scheme - black, white and sepia dominate.
