In 2013, the fourth main installment of the bestselling action-adventure game series dedicated to the centuries-long war between Assassins and Templars was released. Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, as it was called, gained the appreciation of fans mainly due to its sailing system and naval battles.

Starting in 2023, unofficial reports began to surface suggesting that Ubisoft was preparing a comprehensive remake of this title, adapting it to a new gameplay scheme closer to open-world action RPGs. In December 2025, PEGI (the organization that assigns age ratings to video games in Europe) revealed its titleAssassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced.

Resynced is in love with the original game as much as a lot of us are, and the labours of said love are on display in almost every aspect. Put bluntly, Resynced is easily now the best way to play Assassin's Creed Black Flag either again or for the first time, further enhancing what already was the definitive single-player pirate game.

Remaster, remake, rerelease: gamers know the terms, but what do we expect from them—updated graphics and better quality, of course. AC Black Flag Resynced delivers that and much more. Ubisoft gives the community what it asked for in the AC franchise: a return to the seas. Few games stand the test of time, yet 2013’s Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag remains a staple in gaming and is still regarded as the best in the AC series.

TheSixthAxis: 8 / 10 by Gareth Chadwick

Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced is a triumph. Whilst I was nervous about such significant changes, they are mostly for the better. Combat in particular is a bit more challenging now, whilst also still allowing quick assassinations, naval warfare now has more options and is still the best ship-to-ship combat in gaming, and the removal of the modern day sequences makes space for more historical story and missions. It can get a little muddled and has the classic Ubisoft quirks and issues, but i 's hard not to enjoy this remake.
