A turn-based strategy developed by the Polish Thing Trunk studio to pay tribute to the cult UFO: Enemy Unknown. In Book of Aliens, we lead a crisis management team whose goal is to defeat the cosmic invaders trying to conquer the world of Paperverse.
Book of Aliens is the second work of the independent Polish team at Thing Trunk, also responsible for the warmly-received Book of Demons. This time, as part of the Return 2 Games initiative (a tribute to the best productions of the 1990s), the developers focused on UFO: Enemy Unknown, and thus the genre of turn-based strategy games. As was the case in the previous project, the title was enriched with elements borrowed from card games.
Book of Aliens takes us to a paper world (the Paperverse). Its inhabitants enjoyed a peaceful life until the realm was targeted by space invaders. However, not everything is lost, because a squad of elite soldiers and a team of scientists supporting them are entering the action, trying to send the aggressors back to where they came from. Although all this sounds very serious, the whole thing is a parody; there are also tons of black humour.
The action in Book of Aliens is shown in isometric view. The game consists of procedurally generated missions, the length of which can be adjusted to individual preferences. In addition to the tasks set before us, during the game we are fighting in turn-based battles with opponents. During the battles it is necessary not only to skillfully use the abilities of each soldier, but also to ensure that they are properly positioned on the battlefield. During breaks from combat we return to the base, where we conduct research on new technologies that can tip the scales of victory on our side.
Just like Book of Demons, Book of Aliens boasts pleasant graphics in a style reminiscent of paper cut-outs.
