UFO: Enemy Unknown (1994) Release Date PC
UFO: Enemy Unknown is a remarkably successful mixture of simulation, economic strategy, and cRPG developed in the 90's by MicroProse for PC.
The year is 1999, players are becoming the leaders of X-COM, an organization established on 11th December 1998. X-COM's mission is to prevent hostile alien races from attacking Earth, which has been the target of their operations for quite some time. More and more reports come in about missing people, terrorized cities and hideous genetic experiments conducted on humans and animals. The time has come to end all of this.
There are two fundamental aspects of gameplay: the economical one, where we manage the budget of the organization, build bases and fit them up with the necessary equipment (radars, labs, etc.) as well as determine the direction of the scientific research, and the strategic one, where we manage our military units, send military aircraft to intercept unidentified flying objects. Once the UFOs are down, we lead a group of soldiers whose goal is to clear the crash site from the remaining aliens.
The game offers turn-based ground missions with an isometric view of the battlefield. Each of our soldiers is characterized by a number of stats, has a set individual skills, and the possibility of continuous leveling. There are many types of weapons, gadgets and personal armors available: Blast Launcher, Heavy Cannon, Plasma Rifle, Rocket Launcher, Power Suit and so on. When it comes to air support, there are five types of aircraft in the game: Skyranger, Interceptor, Firestorm, Lighting and the Avenger. The players can choose from many branches when developing their bases: Psi Lab, Workshop, Large Radar, Grav Shield, etc.
