Burnhouse Lane is an indie adventure game made in psychedelic horror style, developed by brothers Remigiusz "Rem" Michalski and Michal "micAmic" Michalski, working as Harvester Games studio. For a long time, Rem Michalski was the main creator - responsible for programming, design and script - while the soundtrack was composed by Michalski. Currently, the second brother is also helping with graphics, animation and scripts. The first of Harvester Games' key works is the Devil Came Through Here trilogy, initiated by The Cat Lady (2012).

Plot

The main character of Burnhouse Lane is agency nurse Angie Weather. The woman has been diagnosed with cancer, which has made her lose almost all hope of returning to her former life. However, it turns out that there is a solution. If Angie manages to complete five impossible tasks, she will be saved from impending death.

Game mechanics

Burnhouse Lane is inspired by classic adventure games and titles such as Teltale studio's The Walking Dead, in which every decision made by the player affects the further course of the story. So, as in previous parts, the gameplay is based primarily on exploration, solving puzzles and conducting dialogues with characters encountered along the way.

Thanks to the platform game elements introduced into the gameplay, the player has, among others, the ability to climb to higher floors of buildings, blow up or drop objects. The title also features a sequence in which we take control of a cat, able to get into places difficult to reach for the main character. During these explorations, the player encounters various interactive objects, which can prove useful if only when solving puzzles.

This title also could not lack ghostly opponents. To avoid a confrontation with one of them, the player uses the escape option and protects himself in the available hiding places. Sometimes, however, the fight becomes unavoidable. Thus, the developers of the game bet on shooting mechanics inspired by such survival horror films as Silent Hill or Resident Evil, where, with scarce ammunition and strong blows from enemies, every accurate shot is at a premium.

Technical aspects

Burnhouse Lane was maintained in the convention, familiar to players from the studio's previous productions. Once again it features grim, 2D graphics, where the game world is presented from a side. The title is enriched by an original soundtrack, composed, among others, by micAmic.
