A refreshed and enriched version of the action platforming game from the Polish studio 7Levels. Castle of Heart: Retold features a warrior protagonist who's slowly turning into stone and the only way to remain human is to keep fighting. The main character has to rescue a priestess and defeat an evil warlock.
In 2018, the Polish studio 7Levels released its platform action game titled Castle of Heart. The game was launched exclusively on the Nintendo Switch console. Several years later, it received a refreshed and enriched version titled Castle of Heart: Retold.
Castle of Heart: Retold stands out against the original thanks to a number of innovations. The developers focused on the graphic design, refreshing character models and lighting, as well as preparing new animations. Additionally, tweaks were made to the combat system and platform mechanics, the responsiveness of the controls was increased, the interface was improved, and the soundtrack was remixed.
It is worth mentioning separately that the changes also did not bypass the narrative layer. The dialogues were rewritten, the cutscenes were redone, and the story told in the game was expanded with new endings depending on the number of Mokosh crystals collected and the choices we made.
In Castle of Heart: Retold we watch the action from the side.
The game transports us to a fantasy world straight out of Slavic mythology. The main character of the game is the warrior Svaran, who embarks on a dangerous journey to defeat the Black Wizard, a servant of the dark Black God. The protagonist also plans to find the last priestess of the goddess Mokosh, and save the land from the forces of evil before it's too late. The situation is complicated by the fact that his body is gradually turning into stone and constantly weakening, and only fighting enemies saves him from destruction.
During the game we explore locations, jump on platforms, avoid terrain obstacles, dodge traps, as well as engage in dynamic battles. On our way, we encounter both ordinary enemies like devils, ghouls or water spirits, as well as much more powerful adversaries serving as bosses. We use melee weapons and ranged weapons on the battlefield, including swords, axes, torches, spears, or crossbows.
If we mess up and take too long a break from the fight, the protagonist may start losing limbs, which will initially deprive him of access to certain weapons, and consequently - the ability to move.
