Mechanics

The action of Confederate Express is seen from an isometric view. The game consists of fifty levels in which we fight against numerous opponents (including mindless zombies or armed soldiers) using various firearms. Engaging in all-out firefights is not recommended, as the game employs permadeath mechanics – dying forces the player to begin the game anew.

Technical Aspects

Confederate Express sports pixel art graphics that are reminiscent of games from 8- and 16-bit era. The author has added a few modern elements, such as lighting effects or the ability to destroy some of the encountered objects.

Misc.

The first version of Confederate Express, which received its crowdfunding campaign at Kickstarter in 2013, was announced as a tactical RPG inspired by the cult-classic Jagged Alliance series. The game was supposed to offer a wide range of characters, a complex character development system and the ability to modify weapons. Moreover, the players were supposed to send various packages to different places around the globe, choosing the destination and means of transport. Unfortunately, the initial vision turned out to be too costly – the aforementioned title is a stripped-down version of this project.
