Cookie Cutter is an indie action platformer metroidvania. It was developed by Subcult Joint and published by Rogue Games. The creators were inspired by various manga, the works of Quentin Tarantino and H.P. Lovecraft.

Plot

Cookie Cutter is set in a dystopian future. The game's protagonist is Cherry, an android traversing a megastructure belonging to the INFONET corporation in search of doctor Shinji Fallon, her creator and the love of her life. She's not alone on her journey, being assisted by such allies as Raz, a renegade mechanic.

Mechanics

Cookie Cutter is a side-scroller. The game leads us through various, interconnected locations creating a maze-like world map. While traversing INFONET's megastructure, Cherry must face many dangers, jumping on platforms, avoiding traps, obstacles and fighting enemies.

She'll encounter post-apocalyptic creatures, like giant mosquitoes, bugs and battle robots. Apart from regular foes she'll also face off against powerful bosses. Combat is fast-paced, letting us wield many different weapons, such as chainsaws, mechanical fists and a plasma gun. We can also ride a motorcycle, using it both for transport and as another weapon. To succeed on the battlefield, we must stay mobile, avoid enemy attacks and chain our moves into deadly combos.

On the way, we meet various characters, talk to them and solve puzzles. As we progress, we develop the protagonist and acquire better equipment. This lets us face greater challenges and reach previously inaccessible areas.

Technical aspects

Cookie Cutter features colorful, cartoonish visuals. The game is quite bloody, so despite the seemingly cute artstyle, it's not suitable for children.
