Copycat is a narrative third-person adventure game starring a cat stuck in a shelter. The protagonist must reclaim her home, taken from her by a mysterious impostor, while facing moral dilemmas along the way. It's the debut game of an indie Australian studio, Spoonful Of Wonder.

Plot

We play as Dawn, a cynical cat living in a shelter. She prefers freedom, and so she plans her escape - however, to her surprise, she ends up adopted by Olive, a lonely old lady, as a bond is forged between them.

This all comes to an end when her new owner falls ill and a cunning impostor takes Dawn's place, condemning her to the streets. The cat must therefore find her way back home.

PlayStation Universe: 5.5 / 10 by James Davie

For a three-hour adventure title, Copycat has something meaningful to say about mental health and relationships, yet it can be too often undercut by its rigid design, story happenings that don't make sense, and the overarching feeling that with more time, polish and backing there's an even greater game trying to burst out here. It's a pleasant and fine game for how short it is in spite of its gratuitous repetition, and deserves kudos for being adequately designed by two people, it's also in need of some significant refinement.

With gnomes to break and dark themes to navigate, Copycat is quick and simple, yet emotional, narrative about love and loss.

Copycat stands out as a beautifully crafted narrative experience, notable for its emotional storytelling and enchanting presentation. Although the gameplay may not be the most intricate, its capacity to resonate emotionally with players renders it an unforgettable adventure.
