The story presented in Stray is set in a cyberpunk world where humanity has been forgotten. Our place was taken by robots, no different from typical people. Where the action takes place is a city under a concrete dome, where a lonely cat - the main character of the game - accidentally ends up. He has been separated from other cats and must leave the metropolis to find them. He is helped by B12, a mysterious drone that seems to know more about this world than anyone else.
Stray is an adventure game with a pinch of action, based mainly on exploration. We traverse alternating linear levels and semi-open locations, where we interact with NPCs, collect items and perform side mini-tasks. Controlling the cat gives us a lot of freedom of movement, and the way to the goal is often not obvious and requires jumping over pipes, air conditioners and other elements of the environment (this activity, however, takes place automatically; it is not arcade-like).
An important part of the gameplay is solving uncomplicated puzzles. On top of that, there are sequences straight out of action games, in which we escape from hordes of creatures called zurks or sneak between guard drones. In addition, the game world offers a wide range of interactions appropriate to cats, such as scratching walls and couches, whispering water from a bowl or taking naps on pillows. A dedicated meow button is also provided.
Stray offers only single-player play in an adventure that lasts several hours.

Stray won't challenge you, frustrate you, or take up too much of your time. Perhaps that's why we enjoyed it so much. It plays like an open-world point-and-click paired with largely on-rails action sequences. Some minor gripes and expected disparities between the Switch port and versions elsewhere aside, as we sauntered around its post-apocalyptic environments on all fours, Stray did an impeccable job of making us want to talk to everyone and explore everything it had to offer – and we had an appetite for more once it was all over. To us, that's the mark of a compelling adventure.
