Cozy Grove is a game on the verge of life simulation and adventure games, in which we explore a picturesque island inhabited by ghosts. The game was developed by the indie studio Spry Fox.
Cozy Grove is taking us on a journey to the title place. While playing, we take on the role of the Spirit Scout and our task is to help the spirits living in the area. In this way, we are not only helping the islanders to solve their problems, but also restoring colour and joy to their territories and establishing new friendships.
In Cozy Grove the action is shown from the top-down view. During the game, we explore the island and meet other ghosts inhabiting it. When we talk to them, we learn about the difficulties they face. In order to help them solve their problems, we perform tasks, which often require us to acquire specific items. The items are purchased or manufactured using various resources. When the spirit is no longer bothered by those worries, the area he inhabits is transformed - the surroundings take on colour and plants grow all around. Besides, this is how we gain a friend who is willing to share his unique story with us over time.
Apart from the quests pushing the plot forward and numerous side missions, we can also engage in a bit more prosaic activities, such as fishing, making decorations or even collecting spiritual animals.
Cozy Grove has colourful, hand-drawn graphics. The game is accompanied by a pleasant soundtrack, which is catchy.

Cozy Grove presents island life sans crass Capitalistic Raccoon Overlords, and is a lovely experience through and through.

For all its imperfections, Cozy Grove is enjoyable enough, even if it does start to get monotonous after a little while. Its limited daily playtime is suited better to a mobile device, but even on console there’s something nice about having somewhere to visit for a short while each day. There does need to be more to keep players occupied outside of a handful of quests, though. And performance is an issue that really needs to be addressed. Don’t expect a replacement for Animal Crossing, but Cozy Grove will raise a smile or two.

Cozy Grove is an adorable little time-waster, but depending on your play style, the level of commitment this game requires might not work for you. The core gameplay loop is fun for the most part but after playing for a couple of days every task feels the same as the last, making the whole experience fairly repetitive. The game offers a cute and relaxing experience for the right player and for anyone with an interest in life sim games like Animal Crossing or the Sims, I definitely recommend it. However, if you aren’t already a fan of this genre, Cozy Grove likely won’t change your opinion on it.
